All of us lack realism. This is a human thing; we ease the pain of suffering by coating it with comfortable lies. The problem is that reality always wins. Sooner or later, the scales rebalance, and we’re left on the side with our illusions shattered.

The further our stories were from reality, the harder it was to return to it. Depression strikes the rich, the poor, orphans, happy families, the unemployed, and executives for this reason. Each time, reality comes knocking at your door, disrupting your peaceful slumber. Each time, the pill is hard to swallow. Sometimes, you break.

The “35 Maxims” put together the best reflection over one year of work. There are 35 brief paragraphs focusing on human nature. And their purpose is to infuse realism into every aspect of our lives.

These maxims cover 4 themes:

  • Social Psychology
  • Relationships
  • Concealment
  • Manipulation.

The first two explore how we function and the rules that bind us together as humans. The last two give strategies to protect yourself from deceitful behavior and take offensive action.
