When socializing, the most common advice given is to “Be yourself.” But what we forgot to tell you is that it only works if they WANT to know you. Which makes it a terrible icebreaker.

This post will help you go from being the odd one out to someone everyone wants to connect with.

I’ve been a long-time student and observer of how a group reacts to what we do or say.

Whether we will want to invite you again next time depends on the first few hours of interaction. You either make a good impression, or you don’t.

There is a lot to say. But amidst the dos and don’ts, the things that can increase your likability and the ones that can kill your chances, I had to make a choice.

Here are the 5 mistakes to avoid at all costs.

Mistake 1: You’re too serious, or too funny

We don’t spend time with more than 2 people to discuss serious business. But we also can’t stand the jester who can’t be serious for even a moment.

Be balanced.
