Luck is preparation multiplied by opportunities

Some of the best people I know came into my life because we met at the right place and time. Other wonderful experiences happened spontaneously because I accepted impromptu invitations without overthinking. I can only describe these moments as luck. But not in the usual sense of the word.

For most people, luck is nothing more than a random flip of a coin, an uncontrollable force that governs their lives. When they label someone as “lucky,” it’s a way to diminish that person’s merits. I think this is a strategy to make it easier to cope with their own shortcomings.

In most cases, luck is provoked by an invisible preparation. Not something that falls on us without warning. Your habits and behavior don’t just set the stage. They lure opportunities right to you. You might not know exactly who or what will come your way, but if you remain authentic, those encounters will likely be positive.

When your life feels like a sequence of disasters, this has more to do with everyday small innocent choices you make than an unlucky star. And when life is exceptional, it’s because you consistently make good choices day in and day out. Preparation multiplied by opportunities is what they call luck.
