You Could Have Done Better Today
But you didn’t
“You could have done better today.”
Like me, this sentence might have haunted you just before sleep.
We all have only one shot at life. What lies beyond remains a mystery. The mere thought of infinite nothingness. Or worse, trying to imagine what “nothing” is gives many of us anxiety.
This sense of urgency drives us to seek a meaningful life. The problem is that there’s no guidebook on what it truly means to live meaningfully.
You and I are left alone, with time ticking away and a big question mark looming over us:
What should I do to die happy?
I am a driven person. I primarily focus on “productive” activities aimed at making a future impact. For me, this pursuit of long-term significance is what gives life meaning.
Being driven means prioritizing delayed gratification over immediate pleasure. Unlike playing video games or binge-watching, goal-oriented activities give a sense of pride when you reflect on your day.
The issue is that it doesn’t work that way… There are days when I’m hyper-productive but still feel empty and like a loser at night. And that’s because I compare myself.
